There is something about me that my all friends know that I am now going to share with you: I adore Hello Kitty! When my daughter was little I honestly believe I liked Kitty better than she did. So can you image my excitement when Provo Craft released the Hello Kitty cartridge for the Cricut machines? I was just beside myself with excitement.
In this project Kitty is part of a package ensemble: the cute pie card cut from the Hello Kitty cartridge is attached to the Inch Box from Tags, Bags, Boxes, and More.
You will need only those two cartridges to complete this project. When you open the cut file you will see that I have labeled each page in the design for you. The first page will may look a bit confusing. You will need two colors of card stock to cut the page one: one color for your card base (I chose white) and one color for the outline cuts (I chose metallic charcoal). You will need to place two sheets of 6 x 12 cardstock vertically on your mat. Refer to the design and the grid lines for placement.
You may be wondering why there are two of the outline cuts, as well as why some of the lines are missing in each. You will need an outline piece for the pie section on the front of the card, which opens, and for the Kitty section, which will be attached to the box. The cut on the lower left is the outline for the pie. You will cut off the part of the cut above the berries. The cut on the right is for the Kitty section and you will cut off the part below the berries. The light blue lines will not cut as I used the Hide Selected Contour feature in Design Studio to remove those cuts. Remember to use a sticky mat and a very sharp blade for these small cuts.
Set aside the card base and the outlines and move on to page two of the cut file. On page two you will find the fill in pieces for both the upper and lower sections of your card. After I cut Kitty fill-in pieces I like to think of them as a jigsaw puzzle. Each of the tiny pieces will have a spot to fill in on the larger design. You will be able to tell which pieces go where by the looking at the outline shapes. I used three different colors of card stock to cut page two. I cut each of the three card stock pieces into 6x6 squares and placed them on the mat. I used a textured white for Kitty’s and Bunny’s faces and the doily edge. I used bright coral for the hair flowers, berries, and Kitty’s clothing. And I used a Basic Grey muted pink for the pie pieces. I also inked the top edge of the pie as well as the plate piece.
Before I cut page three, I assembled my card. Remember to go slowly and match each of the little pieces to the corresponding shapes on the outline. Remember that the little shapes over the pie are Bunny’s clothes.
Last I cut the Inch box from TBBM. I placed the box on the paper, stretching the image across the width of the mat and down so that it was 7.3 inches in length (that was the size of my paper). You should feel free to re-adjust the box size to suit your needs.
After cutting the box, I creased the box fold lines, but did not glue them closed. I used my GlueMax glue applicator and applied a strip of adhesive just below the top edge of the box. I attached a one-inch wide piece of ribbon to the adhesive. Next I applied a strip of adhesive to the back closure strip, as well as the front bottom tab. With the box still flat on the desk I again used my GlueMax and applied adhesive to the back of the Kitty card. I placed Kitty on the front of the box, pressing to ensure she stayed on the box. I then folded the box closed and sealed the adhesive.
For embellishments I used my favorite white pen and black pen to apply doodles. I used an addition strip of the same ribbon, two flowers, and a pink pearl brad to make a cut corner embellishment.
You are now ready to add your gift to the box and your message to the card. You will not even need an envelope for this little gem of a set!
