Well the holidays are fast approaching and it's time look back and give thanks for our many blessings. I've created this very dimensional shaped front card to do just that using Opposites Attract, and Doodlecharms welded to a rectangular back from Plantin Schoolbook. The warm autumn tones and rich textures and patterns echo nature's changes this time of year.

As you can see this card is multi-layered and I've included step by step directions to recreate it as is but, as in all of my designs, you can glue the layers down flat instead of using foam dimensionals. The long narrow shape fits perfectly into a legal size envelope (even with all of that popping), but I suggest you slip it into a padded one as well for mailing if you choose to recreate it as shown.

Here is the inital assembly using no dimensionals. All of the pieces, with the exception of the card, mats, and shadows are inked with Distress Inks prior to gluing. The inside mat is attached, then the leaves to the first mat within their shadows. The acorn caps are snipped from the dark brown cuts and embossed with the Cuttlebug Tiny Mosaic folder. The light acorns are glued to their shadows. I love the contrasting fonts in Opposites Attract but have the best luck with the script font by welding it using the shadow feature and condensing it in Design Studio. Both of the "give" cuts are shadows because the regular cut is so delicate so I just glued them slightly offset. Don't forget the dot for the "i".

The "Thanks" is cut from the same plaid as the inside mat. It is embossed with the Cuttlebug Herringbone folder. Sometimes when embossing a printed cardstock the top layer cracks a bit. Doing some inking generally hides that problem and further highlights the texture. This folder is extremely versatile and produces a nice deep emboss. Because of this, however, some die cut pieces become a bit fragile in places so be careful when inking them. It is helpful to ink the edges of these letters before embossing and then go over the surface lightly after they are embossed. I used the same color Distress Inks as in the plaid here; Shabby Shutters, Spiced Marmalade, and Brushed Corduroy.

Now the first mat is glued directly over the card base. The largest berry shadow is glued slightly over the oak leaf (on the left) and the berry is popped on. The small top berry is also popped on it's shadow at this time, as is the medium berry shadow on the right. All of the additional layers are also popped using 1/16th inch foam strips. I can afford to be so generous with my dimensionals because mostly make my own using colored fun foam and double stick tape or my Xyron. Then I cut them to any size or shape I want.

Continue layering as shown in the picture. I wasn't sure whether I wanted to pop the "give" or not, but finally decided the added emphasis to that word helped balance the design. Instead of doodling I added adhesive beads to the leaves and acorns and gems to the "give" after the entire card was assembled. If you want to doodle instead, do it before you start assembling.

Here's a final dimensional shot of the finished card. No, it's not quick and easy if you add the dimension, but I guarantee you'll feel a sense of accomplishment if you take the time to try it. By downloading the .cut file you're already halfway there. I'm sure there's someone special in your life who would appreciate it. Happy Thanksgiving! Cricut Cartridges Required:
