My Cricut cartridge collection had increased to the point that the boxes were taking up a lot of space in my craft room. I moved all my carts, handbooks and overlays into other storage, so now what do you do with all those empty Cricut cartridge boxes that you no longer use to store the cartridges, handbooks and overlays in? That was the question I asked myself because I didn’t want to throw away these sturdy boxes and felt there had to be a good ‘reuse’ for them. I decided to cover the boxes with pretty paper and embellishments. I decided this was a good time to get out my new Gypsy, Nestabilities and Cuttlebug embossing folders, etc. and create some of the embellishments. I decided to make one to store some jewelry in. I also intend to make some to store craft items, memorabilia, Cricut markers, gel pens, in fact, anything that will easily fit inside. They would also make great gift boxes!

To begin, cut a piece of dp 10 7/8” wide x 7 3/8” high. Using the Scor Pal, scoring along the 10 7/8” wide paper;score at 1 5/16”; 5 ¼”; and at 6 ¾”. Use your bone folder for nice, crisp folds. Put Terrifically Tacky Tape down the middle and along all edges of the box and starting from the 1 5/16” fold (this is the opening flap of the box), carefully adhere the cs to the outside of the box. (I remove the tape one section at a time to be sure it goes on straight and smooth.)

Using the Gypsy and Doodletype cartridge (page 85 Shadow Blackout) cut two (2) leaves - each leaf is 1.88”width x 1.95” height ( you will see four in my picture since I needed two more for another project I am working on). I ran the leaves through my Sizzix Big Kick using the Cuttlebug D’Vine Swirls embossing folder and then inked it with Memento Angel Pink dye ink to bring out the swirls. I added some green glitter glue on top of the ink and swirls. Using my Sizzix Big Kick and the Spellbinders Nestabilities Classic Scalloped Circles Large I cut one circle out of green cs and a small one out of white cs. I ran the smaller one through my Sizzix Big Kick using the Cuttlebug Perfectly Paisley embossing folder and inked the edges with the Memento Angel Pink dye ink. I used Ranger Stickles Golden Rod to dot in the center of each scallop on the green cs circle. Using Terrifically Tacky Tape I attached the leaves onto the front of the box. I used Scotch Mounting Tape to attach the chipboard letter “T” to the white circle; the white circle to the green circle and then on the back of the green circle so that these three layers would ‘pop’ when I attached them over the two leaves. I cut a piece of ribbon at 10 7/8”, placed ½” wide Scor-Tape on the back and starting by the edge of the opening flap adhered it around the box. The inside of these boxes are nicely finished, so there is no need to decorate..unless you want to! Have fun creating new uses for your empty Cricut cartridge boxes.
