Little Girl's Trinket Box Using Empty Cartridge Box by Terry

This is how I transformed an empty Cricut cartridge box into a trinket box for little girls.

The first thing you need to do is decide what ‘girly’ paper you want to use and once that is decided, you can choose your embellishments. I decided to use some pre-made items, such as the chipboard dresses and accessories. Others I created using my Gypsy, Cricut E, Paper Doll Dress Up cartridge and New Arrival cartridge. What I love about the Gypsy is that you can search for an item that you want to use and it will show you which cartridge it is on. It also shows you what those items look like on each cartridge. For example, if you want a crown, all cartridges that have a crown will show up with pictures and you can then click on the one you want. Just remember that in order to cut any shape or font, you must own and have installed that cartridge into the Gypsy. If you did that, the cartridges that are installed will appear highlighted as in the picture that says Search Results. Next you click on the PDDU crown of your choice and the screen shows PDDU, the crown is highlighted and the word crown appears at the top. Click on okay at bottom right of Gypsy and the picture of the crown now appears at the top of the screen. Next click on the mat at the bottom right of Gypsy and it will take you to your mat. Just decide what size you want the crown to be, weld and cut.

To begin, cut a piece of dp 10 7/8” wide x 7 3/8” high. Using the Scor Pal, scoring along the 10 7/8” wide paper; score at 1 5/16”; 5 ¼”; and at 6 ¾”. Use your bone folder for nice, crisp folds. I put Scor-Tape down the middle and along all edges of the box and starting from the 1 5/16” fold (this is the opening flap of the box), carefully adhere the cs to the outside of the box. (I remove the tape one section at a time to be sure it goes on straight and smooth.)

To make the embellishments:

Using the Gypsy, Cricut Expression and the New Arrivals cartridge cut four (4) hangers - each hanger is 1.28”width x 2.47” height . Using my Zip Dry Paper Glue I attached two hangers together to make them a little bit sturdier (I did that twice so I’d have a hanger for each chipboard dress). I attached a chipboard dress on top of each hanger and added Scotch Mounting Tape on the back of each dress.

Then Using the Gypsy and the Paper Doll Dress Up cartridge, cut one (1) purse at .71“ width x 2.51“ height. I glued this behind the chipboard purse so the handle would show. If you don’t have a chipboard purse, cut two (2) purses and adhere together. Also using PDDU I cut two (2) crowns at .99” width x 2.54” height and glued together. I added some rhinestones to the crown to give it a little extra bling.

I took three flowers from my stash and chalked the petals with Pebbles Inc. Pearlescent chalks. I used Scotch Mounting Tape under the chipboard “Girly Girl” circle and adhered to the small pink flower. I attached the large white flower to the large yellow flower with Scor-Tape; placed a large pop-dot on the bottom of the small pink flower and placed that on top of the large flowers.

To make the tiny ‘necklace’ I used beads from my daughter’s collection and a small piece of wire. I didn’t want the particular paper pattern on the flap to show, so I cut another piece of cs to match the top of the box and adhered that over the original paper. (See picture above before redo).

Decide where you want your embellishments to go and then it is time to attach them. I glued the small pieces, including the ‘necklace’ with Zip Dry Paper Glue, the dresses using the Scotch Mounting Tape and the flower with Scor-Tape.

I decided it needed a little more bling (every little girl loves bling!!!) so I added faux rhinestones and from my daughter’s stash of frou frou, the pom pom trim!!! If you are giving this as a gift, just fill it with some pretty trinkets for your special little girl (and as a bonus, there is no need for wrapping paper!!)

A few additional ideas…add a small mirror on the inside lid of the box, cut a piece of velvet-like paper and adhere to the inside bottom of box if ‘real’ jewelry is going to be kept in there. Do this as a mother-daughter or grandmother-granddaughter project…the hardest part is just being sure the cs is lined up straight as you’re attaching it around the box…the rest is just having a great time decorating!!!
