Merry and Bright Holiday Card by Deena

The holidays always seem to sneak up on me and this year I want to be ready. So now that November is here it’s time to get started on some holiday cards. This card has a less traditional color combo than my usual holiday cards, but it’s fun to mix it up sometimes, don’t you think? The melon pink and black really contrast with the snowy white to inspire that merry and bright holiday spirit!

Supplies Used:

Cuttlebug

Provocraft Snowflakes embossing folder

Spellbinders Borderabilities Snowflake border

To You and Yours stamp by Stampin' Up!

White, melon pink and black cardstock

Versamark Ink

Black Detail Embossing Powder

white flock

black and white ribbon

silver cord

mini bells

My base card is a standard 5 ½” x 4 ¼” white card stock. The mat layer is 4 1/8” x 5 3/8” melon pink card stock.

The first step was to get my white card stock panel cut and embossed. This panel is cut to 5 ¼” x 4”. The lower part of the card stock is cut using the Spellbinders Borderabilities Snowflake Border.

I passed the same piece back through the Cuttlebug using the Snowflakes embossing folder for the upper portion. I placed the card stock in the folder just above the previously cut border.

My winter cottage image was stamped in Versamark ink on white cardstock measuring 3 ¼” x 1 ¾ . I embossed it with super fine Detail embossing powder in black. It’s important to use a fine detail embossing powder so you don’t lose any lines and the image stays crisp and clear.

I used flock for a white snow effect on the rooftop and the ground. Using flock is super easy. Just use a little clear adhesive where you want to apply the flock, then sprinkle a moderate amount over the image and tap it gently down over the areas you are covering. Wait for it to dry, then tap off the excess. It leaves behind a lovely fuzzy finish!

The image panel is matted with black cardstock measuring 3 ¼” x 1 7/8”, then the melon pink card stock at 3 ½” x 2”.

My final detail is the bow and mini bells. I tied the bow, then attaching the mini bells, I tied the silver elastic cord through the center loop of the bow.
