Spring has me feeling a bit nautical, ready to get to the lake and enjoy the sun shining off the water and while dangling my toes in the waves. That, and the amazing number of expectant moms I know, was the inspiration for a series of cut files and layouts I plan to share. I am hoping to offer two complete baby layouts each month, rotating the gender target each month. Or more simply worded: this month I am sharing two boy layouts, next month I plan to share two girly layouts, and rotate back and forth each month.
The first of this month’s two layouts is AHOY MATE, a nautical themed baby double page spread in which every page element was cut with the cricut! Ahoy Mate utilizes three cricut cartridges: New Arrival – a MUST if you are going to be working on baby projects, Going Places – a great cartridge for boy-type pages, and Tear Drop – a wonderfully light-hearted all-purpose font cartridge. The cut file was designed on the 12 x 12 mat and contains several pages. You should pay special attention to the page title tabs as two of the pages are previews only while others will tell you when you need to cut two of that page.
Below you can see the screen shots of the first two pages of the layout. Again, these two pages are previews should you need to be reminded of the layout design at a later date.
I began by selecting two bold striped pieces of paper as my uncut base(s). Then I cut the background pieces – one for each page. I used a nice mini-striped white and light blue. I followed that by cutting my picture mats – using two different colors - a shade and tint of blue, then the words – in a vivacious red, and finally the anchor elements – in navy. Last I cut the “fill-in” pieces for the sailboats. For the boats I used white for the sails and red to keep with the nautical feel of the project. To eliminate unnecessary cutting, I utilized the Hide Select Contours feature for cutting the boats and sails. (Learn more about this feature in my Baby Flyboys article).
Assembly of the layout is easier than it looks; you start with the bottom layer and you build up on the page. Attach the background pieces to the 12 x12 base papers, centering on the page. Next attach the Ahoy Mates title; it should fit nicely between the top two holes. Attach your top and bottom mats together for your four photo mats. Place them as shown in the completed photograph, or anyway you prefer them. Attach the anchors as embellishments. I also added red buttons over the holes, though red large grommets would be adorable. Finally I filled in my boat pieces.
All you need to do now is add the photos of your little sailor, add a little journaling, and you have just created two adorable, yet easy pages. Only eleven more layouts to go and you will have captured, month by month, your baby’s first year!!!

Submitted by Charla What a great 2 page layout. Each one is great on its own and they are fantastic together. I have such a hard time finding 2 page layouts. Thank you for sharing this! The colors, paper, shapes, the entire layout is impressive. I love how you tied in the anchors and boats on both pages and how you were able to use the eyelets with the tear drop on the lettering. Just terrific!
